Rock Valley College’s (RVC) Advanced Technology Center will be developed in downtown Rockford in the tower currently occupied by the Rockford Register Star at 99 East State Street.
The College has entered into an agreement with Gatehouse Media to lease 100,000 square feet to develop the Advanced Technology Center (ATC), while continuing to offer adult education programs and college credit courses that have been offered for the last three years at the “RVC Downtown” site. The new lease agreement supersedes the previous agreement for “RVC Downtown” that consisted of 15,000 square feet on the second floor of the building.
“Combining the ATC with the courses and programs the College already offers at RVC Downtown will provide a seamless pathway for students to transition from Adult Education programs to core general education courses and then on to the technical education offered at the ATC,” said RVC President Dr. Doug Jensen.
Over 40,000 residents in RVC district do not have a high school diploma, while over 43% of jobs in the region (and 36% of additional job openings in the next 10 years) are classified as “middle skills” jobs, meaning they require more than a high school education, but less than a four-year degree.
